A notification letter will be generated and sent to the student.  This notification letter will come in two form: 1) an e-mail sent to the IU.edu e-mail account, and 2) a physical letter sent to your local address or address of record with the University. The e-mail is a cursory notification, while the physical letter contains more details. The physical letter will contain

-A brief summary of the concerning behavior
-A listing of the alleged charges
-The time, place, and location of the scheduled  judicial conference
-A link to other resources to answer questions and prepare for the Judicial Conference

WHAT TO DO NEXT:

Read and understand the notification letter.  It should provide you with some information about the incident which is concerned and the charges assigned to by by the Dean of Students representative; the judicial officer or judicial board chairperson who signed your letter. The letter will also contain some links to documents with which you should become familiar.  Those are listed below in RESOURCES.

Plan your presentation. You will have to opportunity present your perspective of the incident and any other supporting information or witnesses you feel is relevant.  Be sure your witnesses are available to attend either in person, by phone, or through use of a signed statement.

Plan to attend the judicial conference.  The scheduled conference will not be during one of your classes or labs.  If a legitimate academic or crisis situation conflicts with that conference time, call the phone number or e-mail the person listed on the letter to request a new conference time.  Remember that the Judicial Process will not reschedule for extra-curricular activities or employment.  You will have a minimum of seven days notice to make yourself available.

Please Note: If you do not attend the scheduled judicial conference or make a request to reschedule it, the conference may proceed in your absence, and you will lose the opportunity to present your side of the story and the right to request a formal re-hearing.
